Journal: Art Inquiry Continues

Context

While in the classroom, the children have been exploring what art is and what art in nature looks like and how it makes one feel. To continue the exploration while on holiday break, teachers asked children to find and record in their home journals two things that reflected Art and Nature.

January 9th, 2013 – Art Inquiry Continues: Reporting on Our Findings

Through this activity the hope was for the children to see themselves as researchers, documenting their experiences and findings, so they can develop a sharing understanding of Art and their ideas behind what art is and what it means to them. This sharing provides the children with the opportunity to become confident in exploring various ways to communicate and represent their ideas.

Each child started by reporting on what they found and then were asked these four questions (below is a sample of the children’s answers).

  1. What is this?
    1. Horse made out of wood
    2. A turtle shell
    3. A face made out of a rock
    4. An anchor from an old boat
    5. Snow angel
    6. Corn Maze
  2. Where were you?
    1. The root
    2. In the car
    3. Neighbor Cal's backyard
    4. Aquatic park
    5. Banff, Canada
    6. Near where I picked apples
  3. Why do you think it reflects Art and Nature?
    1. It looks like a horse sculpture
    2. A pretty pattern
    3. Because someone made it and its outside
    4. Because I made it and becuase of the color
    5. Banff, Canada
    6. Colorful and its made from nature
  4. How does it make you feel?
    1. Happy
    2. Feel good / Happy
    3. Good
    4. Happy
    5. Happy
    6. Happy
